Steps after Admission

Once you have received your official letter of completion I-20 document from Minnesota West, you need to prepare for travel.

Most new students must pay the SEVIS (I-901) fee before applying for a Visa or entering the U.S. This fee is assessed by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and is not administered by Minnesota West. For details, visit: fmjfee.com.

There may be a waiting period to receive your passport due to heightened international security issues. You must have your valid passport with you when you apply for your visa.

You must apply for a visa at an American embassy or consulate in your home country.

You will be granted a passport up to 120 days before the start date noted on your I-20 form. You may travel to the United States up to 30 days before that start date.

Embassy/consulate information is available at: travel.state.gov
