Pipestone Carpentry and Plumbing Students off to a great start on 5th home renovation
Minnesota West Carpentry & Plumbing Educational Program | Student Project Home
Our Pipestone students are off to a great start with the beginning construction of the 5th house to be renovated in their educational program. Students work on real houses with real issues and completely flip them into safe and habitable community gems and points of pride for students! A carpentry education doesn't get much more real than this.
Minnesota West Carpentry program instructor, Shawn Berning, has 12 students enrolled in the home project this year. Six full-time and six high school students, as well as six plumbing students who will be working on the project. In partnership between Pipestone Economic Development Authority, Minnesota West Community & Technical College - Pipestone Campus and the City of Pipestone and Pipestone Area Schools, brings the carpentry and plumbing program within our communities.
This specific hands-on experience and basic skills teaching allow the students to explore the work and challenges that come with Carpentry. The Carpentry diploma is a great fundamental step to a life-long career choice. Students are able to use their classroom teachings on a visual project that they can take ownership of and a proud display in the community.
Providing this kind of student opportunity is something we can learn from and transfer to other qualified programs at the college.
