Celebrating Dr. Anita Gaul and Her Remarkable Contribution to Minnesota's Heritage

On May 11, Minnesota Statehood Day, the state had another reason to celebrate its rich history and the remarkable individuals who contribute to its preservation. Among them stood Dr. Anita Gaul, a History Instructor at the Minnesota West Worthington Campus, whose dedication and service to the state were recognized with the prestigious National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS) Medallion Award. Bestowed by Minnesota Secretary of State Steve Simon, this award stands as the highest recognition bestowed by a Secretary of State.

The unveiling of the new state seal and state flag took place on May 11 during an afternoon ceremony celebrating the contributions of key figures. Chair Luis Fitch and Vice-Chair Anita Gaul of the State Emblems Redesign Commission, along with flag designer and Minnesota West alumnus Andrew Prekker, and seal designer Ross Bruggink, were honored with the prestigious award.

Dr. Gaul's commitment to serving her community and preserving Minnesota's heritage stands out as one of her many admirable qualities. As Vice-Chair of the State Emblems Redesign Commission, appointed by the Minnesota Legislature, she embarked on a significant undertaking: the redesign of the state seal and flag.
